The Theory of Relativity (035)
1st Law Monday - Feb 19 2024
In the early 1900s, Albert Einstein proposed the Theory of Relativity which revolutionized the two century old mechanics we had been following. The theory of relativity is complicated, but we can draw some simple conclusions from it without having a physics PhD.
For one, nothing can be measured without a frame of reference. And no matter your frame of reference, the laws of the universe are the same. If you are wondering how a person accomplished something, the answer is invariably that they followed the laws of the universe. And you can accomplish it too if you follow the same steps and obey the laws.
If you are trying to improve a certain area of your life, you need to set a baseline to measure your progress. "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not who someone else is today" - rule #4 from Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life. Comparison is the killer of joy, and meaning comes down to perspective. Track your progress daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly... however you want to do it, but make sure it is only compared to yourself. Progress is slow and discouraging if it is not measured, and above all, it is relative. Compare who you are today with who you were yesterday, now compare it with who you were 1 year ago, or 10 years ago... If you stick to the goals you set, your success will compound. Remember, there is no universal timeline for success.
Have a great week :)
