Framework for a calm mind (139)
1st Law Newsletter - June 9 2025
Welcome back to the 1st Law Newsletter.
Before I brain dump on you, here’s some value:
Framework for a calm mind
A.k.a. how you know you take care of yourself:
Indicator 1: you practice daily mindfulness/ wellness: meditation, stretching, etc…
Indicator 2: you floss daily
That’s it. I feel like if you do both of those, you’re good, you have a healthy mind and you are in good hands (your own).
Pre-war steel
When atomic bomb were detonated, certain radiation was spread throughout the world and has contaminated all surface level materials and things with trace amounts of radiation. the only things that were able to escape this radiation were things that were underwater… sunken planes, ships, etc…
These ‘pre war’ materials are now highly sought after, especially steel, for military applications because they can elude modern radar better than already contaminated steel.
Now, is this how radar works? I don’t think so, radar is radio waves that are emitted in search of objects for them to bounce off. Any radio waves that return to the source, knowing how fast they travel and angle of emission and return, can be used to detect the position of surrounding objects. How does the radiation play into it? Im not sure, but I googled pre war steel, and there is a wikipedia article about it so it must be true. Read for yourself. Either way, it’s a cool story and will make people think you’re interesting, which is often more important than actually being interesting.
Now, dear reader, thank for for making it this far. Prepare yourself for my brain dump.
Whats on my mind
Life is crazy. Emotions have been coming and going. This is really life. I was living before, but I was sort of numb, in a routine, the same foods, places, people, emotions, actions… day in day out. The excitingness was few and far between.
Now, everyday is an adventure. Yes, I am nervous and anxious more often, but I also experience happier moments, more novelties, more joy, more creativity…The same emotions, but a much wider spectrum and greater frequency of emotional variation. The good comes with the bad I guess.
Things I have been doing to stay sane:
getting enough sleep, getting consistent exercise, reading daily before bed, staying in touch with friends, writing this newsletter, eating well
These habits allow me to go all out during the day and focus.
Quote to go
“People fall so in love with their pain, they can’t leave it behind. The same as the stories they tell. We trap ourselves.”
Thanks for reading!
Lucas
P.S.
I want this newsletter to grow, if you now someone who may like it, share please… I may move to substack just so its easy for people to comment… What’s important to me though is that people have the option to read online or in their inbox…
I also want to change the name to Thoughts as a Service, as a nod to all this SaaS tech bro talk that I have been hearing way to much of. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me their startup is AI B2B SaaS, idek. Id have alot of dollars.
Let me know what you think of the potential new name if you made it this far!
