Curated thoughts on a Monday (071)

Busy weeks

Some weeks are simply better than others. They feel much longer, and reflecting upon what happened that week, you realize how much more stuff you did than usual.

Why can’t every week be like this?

Stacking improvements

Previously, I have discussed the math behind daily 1% improvements (1.01365 =37.8). There is another perspective to the value of slight improvements - stacking the small stuff. One small change might not make a difference, but 10 small changes added together can produce unrecognizable results. I have detailed a few examples below.

Better sleep: no caffeine within 10 hours of sleep, no screens 1 hour before going to bed, a cool/cold room, a pitch black room, sufficient exercise during the day, clean sheets.

Stacking the 1% improvementsMindset: daily meditation, walking with no technology, journaling, reading, visualization.

Skills (e.g. any sport, instrument or creative work): Practice by doing, studying others, studying yourself, recording yourself, reviewing past work, taking lessons, trying to give lessons… the list is endless.

Implementing just one of the habits/ changes from the list might not change anything. Implementing many small changes that work together, coupled with consistency and self belief, can transform that aspect of your life.

Believe in yourself

The Oilers came back from being down 0-3 in the Stanley Cup final. With the series now at 3-3, the stage is set for one of the greatest hockey games in history tonight.

What I’m reading

I’ve been falling off with my reading habit. I am still at 24 books read this year. We are now in week 26 (halfway done 2024!). This week I will be reading Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf.

Have a great week :)
