Types of Work

There are various modes of work and distinct advantages to each. It is useful before doing any type of work to recognize the type of work you are doing ad they are all important and applicable at different times. Some examples include the following:

  • Out-Thinking. Creating better strategies or exploiting shortcuts. If done well, this reduces the problems later and sets one up for success.

  • Pure Effort. Working longer, harder and more intensely. When menial tasks needs to be completed, or when results come from volume of attempts, pure effort can put you ahead of the competition.

  • Opportunistic. Positioning ones-self or a business to take advantage of change in society and the world. This can involve recognizing emerging trends, seizing market opportunities, or adapting quickly to new information.

  • Consistency. Doing the average for longer and not missing days. This type of work builds a solid foundation over time and ensures steady progress. Consistency is particularly useful for long-term projects and skill development.

  • Focus. Saying no to distractions. Focus allows you to dedicate your mental and physical resources to a specific task, increasing the quality and efficiency of your work.

Out-thinking and opportunistic work are particularly useful at the start of a project or venture. Pure effort is great when the strategy is well thought out and you need to push through a large volume of work. Consistency and focus are always beneficial and maintaining a routine and staying focused will drive you forward.

Mentor or Mentee

There are three important types of relationships in life. Mentors, peers, and mentees. All aspects of your life can and should have people from all three categories.

Mentors are the experienced individuals who have walked the path before us. Mentors are crucial to making progress as fast as possible as they can help us avoid common pitfalls and mistakes. Luckily, in 2024, you do not need to know your mentor personally as there are unlimited online figures that are sharing wisdom. And if you are too old fashioned for that, read a book and learn from the experiences of someone who came before you.

We have all heard the advice to find a mentor, but it's equally important to consider the role of being a mentor to others. This is often where you learn the most. You don’t really know something unless you can teach it to others.

Our peers are the companions who share our cheers and our woes, our experiences and our challenges. It is important to have peers who are working on the same thing as you. They are your main competition, and in the best case scenario, you push each other to be better to not get left behind.

All different aspects of your life can and should have people from all three categories. In work, in your social life, in your hobbies. Never good to be the best or the worst, the most or the least knowledgeable. Find your place in the middle and grow by fostering the three types of relationships above.

Quote I Want To Share

"What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others."

Confucius

Hold yourself to standards that you have decided upon, do not fall prey to the made up standards of society. Do not look outwards for validation. If you believe in what you are doing and thinking, that is enough. Become the kind of person that inspires change in those around you.
